Holidays Are The Best

Holidays can be a very exciting time. It is like pausing our everyday life routines. Maybe just because or you associate most with others. I will be talking briefly about the Holidays as they come in the United States. Other Countries may have a slightly different day for some or not celebrate them at all.

Let us start with New Year’s Day. Which always shows up on the 1st day in January. This holiday is celebrated all around the World to start a brand new year. With it comes so many new ideas as to what to do and not do during this new beginning. This is the time that most people think about a New Year’s Resolution. Which actually only lasts for a few months.

The following holiday that is celebrated is Martin Luther King’s Day. It is honored on the third Monday in January. Most places get the day off because it is considered a Federal Holiday. Known for his famous speech, “I Have A Dream”. He fought for Civil Rights.

Coming to the February Holidays and Beyond

Valentine’s Day always comes on the 14th of July. On this day we celebrate the loves of our lives. Whether it be Husband, Wife, Boyfriend, Friend or Family member(s). Usually we give gifts or just sharing time together. Chocolate and Flowers are the most popular. It does not really matter how you celebrate it. Just make sure you at least call the person on that day and say you love them.

On the third Monday in February we celebrate President’s Day. A day to remember all our past and current Presidents. Their accomplishments and their errors as well. People usually don’t throw party or such, but they do Love that day off from work if thy are lucky to have.

Saint Patrick’s Day is our next Holiday always falls on the 17th of March. Which is the date that St Patrick died. It is a religious and cultural holiday. Also the patron saint of Ireland. On that day everyone is Irish no matter what Nationality you are.

Easter Sunday is always on the 1st Sunday after the full Moon which occurs on or right after the March or spring equinox. I remember as a child my Parents would always take us to the park right after attending Mass. My sisters and I would love that particular day. Lots of candy and colored eggs. My Parents and other adults would hide the eggs for us to go and find them. Seems silly but when you are a child you just think it is the best fun. My Dad was very good to us. He always did his best to make us all happy always. He wanted us to keep this Holiday alive as a family tradition.

One of the Most Celebrated Holidays

This next one is one of the most famous Holidays of the year. It is held on the second Sunday in May. And you have probably guessed which one it is, right Mother’s Day. On this day, florists sell the most flowers than any other day in the year. Not only do people give flowers but also chocolates, stuffed animals and many other gifts.

Many people love this Holiday which is Memorial Day, always falls on the last Monday in May. It is loved especially in the places where Winter is harsh, because it is the Start of the Summer activities. Also it is a time for the coming of better weather. A day when the grills start firing up for the duration of the Summer days.

Another great Holiday is Father’s Day. It is celebrated on the second Sunday in June. A day to honor our Fathers and all Father figures who have been in our lives. Those who have been our role models as well throughout our life. People usually gift them ties or shirts. I remember every time my sisters and I gave my Dad his gift, my Dad would say, “no need for a gift, it was never really celebrated before, but now they do because businesses want to sell more” We would just laugh.

Holidays Are Fun

Now 4th of July as we know it, is our Independence Day. A day to celebrate our Nation’s Freedom. It is always celebrated on July 4 no matter which day it falls on. People love to use fireworks to enjoy this day. Kids love them as well. So many parties and gatherings are done on this specific day.

Our next Holiday usually is right before the start of the school year in most public schools in our Nation. It pops up on the first Monday in September and it is a Federal Holiday. Also it is the close of the summer season and our fun grilling days and outside events. The children probably hate this holiday because they know school will be starting. The end of outside activities will surely be shorten.

As we know Columbus Day in some places has been changed to Indigenous Peoples Days. They both share the second Monday in October to celebrate them as National Holidays. Some people did not want to change it from Columbus Day, but nonetheless it has in some places. Now they both share the day to celebrate.

Coming to the End of our Holiday Journey

Halloween we all know always comes on the 31st of October. No matter what even if the weather is horrible on that day, kids always come out for treats. My Mom always made my costumes. A different one each year so I could be out there and enjoy the night. My Sisters and I would collect so much candy it was crazy. We ate so much candy for the next 2 weeks. My Parents would check our candy first then we could have it to enjoy. So much has changed now. There are those who want to do harm and use candy to do it.

November brings us Veterans Day on the 11th of November. It always comes on the same date. This is a day to remember our fallen Heroes, those who fought so we can be free. We have to always give them a big shout out for their work and dedication to our Country.

Our next November Holiday is Thanksgiving which comes on the fourth Thursday of November. Many companies and schools have both Thursday and Friday off. A day to give thanks for everything we have and for our good fortunes. Families get together and celebrate with great food most likely Turkey, Ham, Rice and all the Trimmings.

Our Last Step of Holiday Cheer

Christmas Day always December 25th. Some people do their celebration on the 24th, which we know as Christmas Eve, while others do it on the actual 25th. While others celebrate it on both days, especially if you have to go to both sides of the Family. That way there is no fighting as to where to go. It is a time to be with Family and enjoy the company of each other. I love this day because we all get together and celebrate in a special way.

Our last Holiday is kind of unique, always falls on the last day of the year December 31st. Actually it may not even be a Holiday because we all know it as New Year’s Eve. You can watch so many programs during the evening to lead to our First day of the New Year. That is what we celebrate on this day the coming of a brand new year. Hoping that the next one will bring us more of what we want and need.

I for one love Holidays. I do have my favorites just like everyone probably as well. My most favorite is Easter Sunday I just love the traditions that my Parents made for us. The next one is Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve those because again family tradition and all the memories I have from so many years ago.

I wish all of you the best on every Holiday you celebrate, Just remember to not take your celebration over board. Stay safe and much care in everything you do.
